New Student Residence

Building attractive new student residences will significantly improve our on-campus quality of life for students, and enhance student retention and recruitment. After careful consideration of the cost of renovating the Memorial, Cunningham, and Dearing Halls, we have decided the most cost effective solution will be to build new Residence space, providing students with contemporary apartment-style communal living. Residences will be equipped with elevators and living spaces designed for all students including those special accessible needs.

Project Total: $20 million

We have big news!

In March, we received a $10 million commitment for the Residence! It has launched the project from the vision stage to the pre-construction stage.

Along with this large gift, Prairie has also received a $5 Million Matching Challenge for alumni and friends of Prairie to give donations and double their impact for the Residence project.

We are grateful to offer many options for giving to Prairie. Click on the method of giving that works best for you. All donations greater than $10.00 will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes. Prairie is qualified to issue Canadian and American tax receipts.

Interact e-Transfers are only available for owners of a Canadian bank account. This may be a good option in lieu of mailing in a cheque or a credit card payment (with a processing fee).

When you request to make an e-transfer, ALL these pieces of information MUST be included on the “Message”/ “Memo” section of the transfer:

  1. That this is a donation;
  2. Indicate which fund the donation is to go towards (Note: if no fund is specified the default is  the General Fund);
  3. Your name, either person or organization. This is for tracking and receipting purposes.

For an example of the e-transfer process, click here.

Notes:

  • The email address to be used is finance@prairie.edu. If it is sent to an individual at the college, the e-transfer will not be accepted.

  • For the security question, please use one suggested in the example screenshot as it will help us accept the gift. If you do another security question, please email finance@prairie.edu to notify them of the question and answer you’ve used.

  • E-Transfers cannot be used for recurring donations. If you wish to set up a recurring donation, please see “Donate as a Recurring Gift” or alternatively call the Development Department on 403-443-5511 Ext 282.

Gift in Kind Giving

Do you have a tangible asset (real estate or physical property) that you no longer need or you think would enhance Prairie’s program?  Rather than sell the asset you could gift it.  Prairie would be able to issue you a tax donation receipt for the sale value of the property or value determined by a qualified third-party appraisal.  There are some ‘hoops to jump through’ and Canada Revenue Agency rules to follow, but we’ve done it before and would be happy to guide you through the process.

  2. In the memo line, add “IMO” and then the name of the loved one you would like to honor.
  3. If you have a specific designation for your donation. E.g. Capital Fund, Scholarships and Education Fund, please also list this in the memo line. If you have no specific designation, you can either name the ‘Centennial Campaign’ (which is the name of our ‘General Fund’), or not specify any fund here.
  4. If your cheque does not list your First and Last names and your postal address, please include a short note with these details so we can properly receipt your donation.
  5. Enclose your cheque in an envelope addressed to:

  4. Before completing your donation by clicking on the “Make Donation” button at the very bottom of the screen, please add in the “Comment (optional)” section. “IMO” and then the name of the loved one you would like to honor.
